CHAGRIN FALLS, OHIO—Diane Martel, vice president of environmental planning and strategy for Tarkett North America, will deliver a presentation on human factors in interior design at this year’s International Facility Management Association’s World Workplace Conference and Expo in Phoenix.

The conference, held Oct. 26 to 28, is the largest and longest running of its kind for facility management and related industries, with last year’s event attracting an estimated 4,900 attendees from over 40 countries. Johnsonite, the commercial arm of Tarkett, will also be exhibiting in booth 1332.

Martel’s presentation, “Products on the job: Human factors in interior workplace product design” is part of the larger Human Factors topic track and will take place Friday, Oct. 28 at 9:15 am. Martel will highlight project case studies, multiple market surveys and personal interviews to discuss the impact of interior building products on the happiness, health, safety and productivity of occupants and maintenance workers.

Since joining Tarkett in 1988, Martel has played a key role in the development and implementation of the company’s comprehensive sustainable initiatives, including its innovative recycling and reuse programs.

“The term ‘people-friendly’ is often used when addressing the topic of human factors in interior design. However, this phrase does not refer only to the effect of the product on overall human health, but also includes company labor practices, community impact, human rights and product responsibility,” said Martel. “Our ultimate goal is to create products that encompass all of those factors and contribute to healthy, safe, functional and beautiful interiors. And, by decreasing maintenance and increasing ROI, our products allow spaces that are both people-friendly and budget-friendly.”

In addition to Martel’s presentation. Johnsonite will be highlighting several high- performing products in its exhibit throughout the conference. Featured products include the Azrock Collection; Cortina Grande Solid Vinyl Tile (SVT); Color Essence and Azterra Vinyl Enhanced Tile (VET); Optima iQ Homogenous Sheet and Tile; Masquerade Contoured Wall Base, and the Eco-Naturalism Collection.
