Los Angeles—Bentley Mills, Inc., announced that post-consumer calcium carbonate derived from reclaimed carpet is now a standard ingredient across all of its backing systems, marking a major milestone in its company values of circularity and supply chain transformation. The California-based company is the first U.S. commercial carpet manufacturer to adopt this reclaimed calcium carbonate in all backings as part of its permanent supply chain.

“This is not a concept or pilot,” said Jay Brown, president and CEO of Bentley. “We’ve made a structural change to how we manufacture. Our customers expect leadership from us—not just in design and quality, but in doing what’s right for people and the planet. This is one more example of how we deliver on that.”

Vetted and third-party certified by SCS Global, the 100% post-consumer recycled calcium carbonate is reclaimed through a proprietary process that isolates and purifies the material from carpet waste. Working with Circular Polymers by Ascend, Bentley says it has successfully incorporated this reclaimed material into every one of its running-line backing systems—without requiring customer opt-in, premium pricing or performance trade-offs. This change is now part of standard production.

The supply chain shift supports California AB 863, a law requiring carpet sold in the state to contain at least 5% carpet-to-carpet recycled content by 2028. Bentley said it is positioned to meet that threshold and contribute toward LEED credit eligibility for recycled and circular content.

“Bentley’s large-scale adoption of post-consumer calcium carbonate from carpet waste represents a defining moment for the carpet industry,” said David Bender, CEO of Circular Polymers by Ascend. “We congratulate Bentley on their leadership in sustainability and for delivering this circular content in their products.”

According to the company, this latest action builds on its legacy of responsible manufacturing. All Bentley carpet products are PVC free, Red List Free, PFAS free, antimicrobial free and manufactured in the only LEED EB-OM Gold certified carpet mill in the United States. Bentley’s products also carry third-party verified Declare Labels, Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) and Health Product Declarations (HPDs), as well as Cradle to Cradle Certified, NSF-140 and CRI Green Label Plus certifications.
