Dalton — Georgia Gov. Nathan Deal recently recognized Shaw Industries Group Inc. among Georgia companies that expanded international markets in 2013. Shaw received a GLOBE (Georgia Launching Opportunities By Exporting) Award from the Georgia Department of Economic Development (GDEcD) during the Go Global reception hosted by GDEcD on Feb. 18.

“International trade plays a key role in maintaining Georgia as a leader in the global marketplace,” said GDEcD Commissioner Chris Carr. “With 14,500 exporters in our state, it is important that we not only encourage companies to explore international markets, but also recognize the companies that have been successful in this venture.”

Shaw exports many of its flooring products to markets throughout the world from its manufacturing facilities in Georgia and other U.S. locations. In June 2013, Shaw celebrated the grand opening of its 210,000-square-foot (20,000- square-meter) carpet tile plant in Nantong, China. This newly constructed facility offers customers in Asia quicker access to a wider range of fully recyclable, Cradle-to-Cradle-certified products.

“At Shaw, we’re committed to servicing the needs of our customers. That includes ensuring that we’re providing the right products in the right markets,” said Vance Bell, Shaw chairman and CEO. “In the past year, we have announced or completed more than $400 million in expansions to meet the needs of our and the shifts in market preferences. As demonstrated by these strategic investments in 2013, we are bullish about the long-term future of our company, the success of our customers, our people, and our communities – and the future of manufacturing in America and around the world.”
