Lancaster, Pa.—Armstrong achieved Climate Registered status with the Climate Registry, an organization supported by states, provinces, territories and tribes, which measures, publicly reports and third party verifies their greenhouse gas (GHG) inventory according to the Registry’s voluntary reporting program.

Armstrong is the first and only company to date to have three years of global emissions records, from 2006 to 2008, verified in accordance with the Registry’s program. Armstrong was also recognized for committing to reduce its greenhouse gas footprint by 10% as part of the Climate Registered reduction program. “Becoming Climate Registered isn’t easy,” said Diane Wittenberg, Executive Director of The Climate Registry. “An organization needs to have measured their GHG footprints with accuracy, transparency and to verified international standards. No green washing here; that’s real environmental leadership.”

The Registry is the most rigorous program of its kind, requiring corporations to measure their entire North American carbon footprint, verify the findings with an independent third party and publicly report the results. The Registry sets consistent and transparent standards to calculate, verify and publicly report greenhouse gas emissions into a single registry.

Armstrong joined the registry in 2008, “To provide a best-practices roadmap for reducing carbon pollution, and like a financial audit, get third party verification that we’re tracking our progress correctly,” said Steve Pfeiffenberger, vice president, Environment, Health and Safety, Armstrong. “The Climate Registered status validates the robust data we’ve been tracking internally is accurate and reliable, and ties this work to our corporate sustainability goals.”
