Los Angeles—The Mohawk Group played a supporting role in this year’s recent Los Angeles Film Festival by providing the red and ‘purple’ carpet for the opening of the 19th annual festival held at LA Live and other downtown Los Angeles venues as well as the Los Angeles County Museum of Art.

In addition to the red carpet areas, Mohawk Group participated as a furniture and furnishings benefactor for the Filmmaker Lounge Competition, a new design and build competition at the festival that enlisted more than 25 entries by design firms from Southern California and beyond.

The event draws filmmakers, industry professionals, new talent and cinema aficionados from around the world, and showcases the best in new American and international cinema. This year a competition to design the filmmakers’ lounge was conducted by Designer Pages and Archinect, and included products from Mohawk Group, Ceasarstone, Fredericia and Kinetic Lighting. The winning lounge design was by Blnko of Los Angeles with a theme that focused on story windows—illustrating film as a window into a visual story—and featured Karastan’s Elegant Fracture. DDD, Robert Trempe, Napkin Sketch and Pierron Architecture were also recognized for their designs.

“We were very excited to be asked to participate in this year’s festival not only for the red carpet areas but also for the design competition,” said Christopher Stulpin, Mohawk Group’s creative director. “By conducting this competition with vast programmatic requirements, it’s clear the festival has a strong sense of the importance of design—that extends beyond film—to create a memorable experience on site for the filmmakers and other festival event programs. This matches our philosophy of aligning with collaborators that look to other design disciplines outside their own.”

The Mohawk Group provided a variety of products including Karastan’s Elegant Fracture in colors Cosmo and Cement for the filmmakers’ lounge, as specified in Blnko’s winning lounge design; Karastan’s Spectrum V36 Blaze for the opening and gala red carpet, and Karastan’s Spectrum V36 Purple-icious as a ‘purple’ runway carpet for the special opening of My Little Pony: Equestria Girls.
