Valinge patents laminate recycling technology

Viken, Sweden— Välinge has patented a new method for recycling laminate flooring. In 2007, a method was developed in which old laminate floor panels are mechanically cut into small particles, mixed with binders, and pressed and formed to sheet shaped material to be used as a core in a new, traditional laminate floor panel or a powder-based WFF floor panel.

This new recycling method is expected to save raw materials and eliminate gases created when an old laminate floor panel is burned. Old laminate floors could also be milled to wood powder and used as raw material in the surface layer of a new WFF floor panel based on Välinge powder technology.

Its new powder based WFF floors are even easier to recycle since the production method and raw materials are adapted to facilitate recycling.

Välinge will apply a very flexible licensing model to encourage the industry to use the recycling method broadly and preserve the environment.
