TORONTO—USGBC has announced that Pulitzer Prize-winning author Thomas Friedman and Emmy Award-winning journalist Cokie Roberts will speak at Greenbuild’s opening keynote and celebration Oct. 5. Friedman will lend his expertise to USGBC’s Resiliency Agenda panel, which will be moderated by Roberts.

The panel will discuss resiliency and demonstrate how industries can play a role in community rebuilding efforts in Haiti and around the world. The panel will also include medical anthropologist Dr. Paul Farmer, chair of Global Health and Social Medicine at Harvard Medical School and founder of Partners in Health, who has written about health, human rights and the consequences of social inequality.

This year’s Greenbuild closing plenary will feature a keynote address by New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg, who is known for catapulting New York into the international vanguard for advancing sustainable development. As chair of the C40 Cities Climate Leadership Group, Bloomberg will discuss what cities around the world can do to generate real change.

Greenbuild also has set its entire education program, which features more than 90 sessions that will be presented on 15 topics ranging from technology to corporate social responsibility to energy to infrastructure.

All concurrent education sessions have been approved for GBCI and AIA continuing education hours, and many courses are LEED-specific. Those interested should check the show scheduler.
