Britt Lakin, a professional photographer from Dublin, Ohio, is the $5,000 grand prize winner in Mullican Flooring’s WE OUR MULLICAN FLOOR!” photo contest conducted on Facebook.

Lakin’s winning photo, which depicts her home’s family room, displays prefinished, solid “walnut nature” hardwood flooring from Mullican’s Nature Collection. The photo received 3,003 votes and 5,547 Facebook views.

The competition’s first place – a $1,000 prize – went to Dan Amonett of Murfreesboro, Tenn., whose photo received 158 votes and 536 Facebook views. Amonett’s photo depicted a loft with both floor and ceiling in prefinished, engineered “Brazilian cherry” hardwood flooring from Mullican’s MeadowBrooke Collection.

Both winners were determined based on popular votes cast on the WE OUR MULLICAN FLOOR!” Facebook page.

Lakin and her husband, David, decided to install Mullican hardwood flooring as part of renovations to a newly purchased 1970s dwelling. The couple was already familiar with the quality of the flooring due to a previous purchase.

“We had used Mullican tigerwood flooring in a condominium and loved it,” Lakin explains. “When we moved into our new house in 2007, we decided to use the tigerwood again for a home office and then selected the walnut flooring for a family room.”

Lakin, who owns Britt Lakin Photography in Dublin, assumed the role of home decorator and ordered the prize-winning walnut flooring.

“We bought the walnut floor in February 2009 to replace some outdated red carpeting in our family room and are extremely happy with it,” Lakin says. “The floors are still gorgeous even though we have a dog and two children.”

Amonett, a mechanical engineer at Scott Fetzer Company, purchased and personally installed the MeadowBrooke flooring last summer while constructing a house he built on Centerhill Lake in Smithville, Tenn.

“We chose engineered flooring primarily for the price,” Amonett says. “It was less expensive than solid flooring, and it looked like a good, quality floor. We chose Brazilian cherry because of the variation in the colors and the woods.”

To collect the cash rewards, both winners were asked to provide either a copy of the flooring’s purchase receipt or an end tag from the Mullican box containing the flooring. Headquartered in Johnson City, Tenn., Mullican sells hundreds of products in stores across the United States and Canada.

“We are grateful to all our entrants and extremely happy for the winners, Britt Lakin and Dan Amonett,” states Brian Greenwell, Mullican’s vice president of sales and marketing. “These photos are a genuine reflection of two consumers who have made excellent use of Mullican’s products.”

The prize-winning photos are currently posted on Mullican’s Facebook page.
