Shaw launches durable luxury vinyl plank

Dalton, Ga.—On the heels of winning “Best of Neocon” Gold for Quiet Cover, Shaw Commercial Hard Surfaces announces the most recent addition to its luxury vinyl product collection.  There is new demand for color in the industry, and Uncommon Ground was thoughtfully designed as a departure from the species, featuring 48 colors to complement a myriad of design schematics.

Twenty-four updated and inspired visuals are available in the Uncommon Ground color line – each available in a four and six inch width.  Wider planks are conducive to market trends, and used in tandem with the rustic wood pattern, superior design options are available. For added dimension, the two widths can be used together to achieve an antiqued appearance.  The color line is well-rounded and ranges from modern European wood patterns to traditional American cherry and maple species and also includes clever visuals such as olivewood and the abstract, striated zen design.

“Uncommon Ground was designed to meet the aesthetic needs for multiple commercial market segments, so having a wide variety of options is crucial,” explains Creative Director, Pam Rainey.  Each color is embossed to translate to the pattern, so the rustic styles popular in retail and hospitality yield an authentic, true-to-nature texture.  Healthcare designers who traditionally shy away deep embossing will also find options in this collection, as the more traditional styles have a lighter wood ticking that remains easy to clean.  Rainey adds that “the textures and visuals work together in Uncommon Ground, ensuring a much more natural appearance than planks with a generic emboss.”

Dave Thoresen, vice president of sales for hard surface states “We have high expectations for the popularity of this new line and are committed to having it available when our customers need it.”  Long lead times are common in luxury vinyl plank, as much of it is manufactured in Asia and transit time can exceed two months.  On the contrary, Uncommon Ground will be included in the highly-stocked commercial resilient program, warehoused in Dalton, Ga.  Shaw Commercial Hard Surface targets inventory levels at 95% of projected sales so that almost all orders ship within 72 hours or “N72” from the primary distribution center.

Uncommon Ground is constructed as a three millimeter, glue down LVP with a heavy commercial grade wear layer.  To ensure optimal performance in heavy traffic environments, planks are finished with Shaw’s exclusive ExoGuard topcoat – reinforced with quartz for more wear resistance than basic urethane finishes.  The product is manufactured in South Korea using the safest plasticizers available, eliminating
