Durkan uses latest technology for new collections

Home News Durkan uses latest technology for new collections

Marietta, Ga.—With its new Spectronics 25X digital printing technology, Durkan, the hospitality brand of The Mohawk Group, is offering customers the most innovative and advanced method of printing, noted Lee Blair, senior vice president, global head of hospitality, Mohawk Industries. “Durkan is the first in the hospitality industry to employ the state-of-the-art 25 dpi system, which uses computer controlled, high-speed valves to achieve deep color penetration and elaborate design precision.

“Durkan has continued to invest in the very latest technologies, even during difficult economic conditions,” he explained. “Our ability and commitment to making these cutting-edge capital investments is what separates us from the competition and it further strengthens Durkan’s position as the leader in the hospitality market.”

The new Spectronics 25X system offers a 56% higher resolution than what was available on previous machines, Blair noted. “The innovation also delivers 625 pixels, which is a significant increase over the old system’s 256 pixels. It can utilize up to 12 colors and each color has a 1,280 jet capacity.

“We understand that color, styling and design determine the entire look and feel of a space,” Blair said. “Because of its superior resolution, the Spectronics 25X system is capable of reproducing incredibly sophisticated patterns with unmatched clarity. This allows us to offer our customers new levels in design. Truly, it can’t be beat.”

Blair said the Spectronics system has been in place since late 2011, and Durkan has already produced several new collections that take full advantage of the technology. “The Spectronics 25X machines are also faster, resulting in greater efficiency and less waste.”

In an effort to deliver unprecedented innovation to its customers in 2012, Durkan has introduced multiple print collections which demonstrate the many advantages of the brand’s Spectronics 25X technology.

“Durkan has long been the leader in hospitality design,” said Barb Marcy, director of creative design. “Our Spectronics technology allows us to create a level of print design sophistication and pattern intricacy never been seen before in the hospitality segment.”

Utilizing this new technology, Durkan continues to cultivate collaborative partnerships with celebrity designers in an effort to bring a diverse perspective to each product offering, Marcy said. “Virginia Langley has been a Durkan design collaborator since 2005, creating several top-selling Durkan collections. Her latest offering, Bellarri, delivers bold designs and combines fashion and nature, trendy and tranquil.”

Durkan has once again partnered with Tracy Lee Stum, one of the most sought after working artists in the hospitality industry today, this time bringing the Verdant Exposure print collection to customers. “Desert inspired from Death Valley to Joshua Tree, these converted photographic organic images of desert succulents, cacti and branches represent the exposure to a harsh environment into playful realism,” Marcy said.

Durkan designers Amy Jaekel and Van Jones fused their styles to produce Bliss, a print collection that uses a silk batik as the source of inspiration. Offering a non-traditional historic pattern methodology, Bliss utilizes watery color effects and intriguing wax line cracks to achieve a handmade look, she said.
